Most of us drive cars, and we look to a different dashboard gauge to find out a variety of things that are going on while we are driving. There are many different gauges on a car’s dashboard, and each one has a different function. At the very least, your vehicle will have two important dashboard gauges, the speedometer and the fuel gauge. In this article, we are going to discuss some of the dashboard gauges and learn what they are used for. Let’s begin with the speedometer.
• Speedometers – It is important that we always drive within the speed limit, and in order to know for sure that we are, vehicles must come equipped with speedometers. Like any other part on a car, you can sometimes have problems with a speedometer not working, and this is something that you need to have repaired right away. The last thing you want is to get a speeding ticket because you were going over the speed limit and didn’t know it.
• Fuel Gauges – There is nothing worse than being in the middle of nowhere and running out of gas. Most of the time, we make sure that we are driving with plenty of gas in our vehicles, but, if the fuel gauge is not working, you may think that you have all kinds, when you are almost on empty. On the other hand, a broken fuel gauge could make you think that you have no gas, when you have plenty.
• Temperature Gauges – When our vehicles overheat, it can cause a lot of damage to the engine and other parts. It is important to have a working temperature gauge. This way, you know how hot your car is running, and you will know if it is going to overheat. If this starts to happen, you need to get your vehicle to a mechanic as soon as possible to make sure that there is not going to be any damage to your vehicle due to running it hot.
• Tachometers – You need to know how fast your engine is running in RPM, and you can get this information when your vehicle has a tachometer. When your engine is running normally and not too high, you can save gas, which these days is really important because of the high cost. When you have a tachometer, you will know when you are revving your engine too high, which can not only waste gas but can cause engine damage.
It is important that you learn about your vehicle, and about the various gauges on your dashboard. You would be surprised at what you can learn from a dashboard gauge, and what you learn could mean the difference between a good working car and one that needs a lot of work because it was run too hard.
